Miscellaneous local clients
Emerplym Ltd has
continued to advise, guide and support local small businesses to help them
derive optimal benefit from their investment in IT. We have supplied hardware
and expertise to clients in Carmarthenshire, devised and implemented IT
strategies for small businesses, developed websites and evaluated then
recommended suppliers to our clients.
Historically, Emerplym Ltd has always supported a select direct short-term
client base, and has delivered some major IT, bespoke software and
infrastructure projects for those clients. Since 2001, when the company
relocated from the South East to
January 2008 – March 2008 Data Analyst (Contract)
·
Cable & Wireless Plc
Emerplym Ltd was again engaged by C&W to carry out two short projects, a short scoping study and risk analysis in the form of a High Level Design for another strategic data federation and migration project, and then a second scoping study to deliver a Business Case with options, a High Level Design and a long term IT Roadmap for an unrelated business critical cost and invoice verification service.
November 2007 – January 2008, Data Analyst (Contract)
·
Cable & Wireless Plc
Emerplym Ltd was engaged again by C&W to lead a small team attempting to match records in two independently generated datasets with no common keys, using a variety of complementary approaches, including Business Objects Data Integrator and the Business Objects Data Quality suite. We planned and led the project in a challenging environment, and successfully delivered a toolset that allowed C&W to match the two datasets and improve the quality of their business critical data by linking key systems together to form one coherent view of their customers. Finally, we delivered a ‘Lessons Learned’ document to the Head of Business Intelligence and the Project Manager, which has formed the basis for a revised approach to subsequent projects.
September 2007 – October 2007, Data Analyst (Contract)
·
Cable & Wireless Plc
Emerplym Ltd was engaged by the C&W Business Intelligence team to perform a brief data mapping exercise, analyzing & identifying data sources in new systems for key operational reports currently delivered from legacy systems, all as part of a major business change programme. Emerplym Ltd was also contracted to carry out a dimensional modeling exercise and design a data mart as part of the same project, and then to develop the ETL to populate the mart from operational systems using BODI XI Release 2 (11.7).
July 2005 – January 2007, Business Data Analyst (Contract)
·
Steria Plc
The C-NOMIS
programme was a major Criminal Justice IT & business change project, driven
by a high profile review of offender management techniques & processes. In
addition to combining the Probation Service & HM Prison Service into The
National Offender Management Service (NOMS), the review recommended a ‘joined
up’ approach to managing offenders. One result of that recommendation was a
project to implement a single comprehensive IT system for both prisons & the
probation service. Steria Plc was contracted by NOMS to provide data cleansing
tools to the 42 probation areas, to allow them to cleanse the poor quality data
held in their heterogeneous legacy case management systems. They were also contracted
to migrate the business critical offender data from those 42 probation service
areas to the new central integrated case management system, C-NOMIS.
Emerplym Ltd was in
turn sub-contracted by Steria to provide data analysis, data modelling, migration
design and migration development services to the project. Tasks completed
included designing & specifying the secure development environment, collaborating
on the modelling and design of the proxy data staging area (CLS), large scale
and complex data-mapping of various discrete legacy data sources to the CLS,
and working in collaboration with others to agree, produce and document development
standards & procedures.
We also took the
lead in designing a coherent migration and validation approach, a complete migration
architecture and numerous detailed process designs.
Emerplym Ltd also end-to-end developed many hundreds of
complex migration transformations using BODI XI Release 2 (11.5.1.7), and wrote
a number of migration quality reports using Crystal Reports XI. We also
collaborated on the design and implementation of a Business Objects Dashboard
Manager and Performance Manager based data cleansing monitoring and management
solution.
February 2004 – June 2004, Implementation Support Coordinator (Contract)
·
Network Rail Ltd
Using the client legacy systems domain
knowledge and metadata that were developed during the preceding two contracts,
Emerplym Ltd delivered Data Analysis, Migration Strategy, Migration Mapping
& Migration Architecture Design services to the separate Project Management
& Control (PM&C) sub-project, which also formed part of the previously
described IMS programme. PM&C have rolled Oracle Projects out to the Major
Project & Investment division of Network Rail, & as part of that
roll-out, conducted a big-bang migration of live projects from the existing
legacy PMCS environment to OP. Our role was to work with Oracle to define,
design & build key components of that legacy data migration. Most of the
migration design & implementation work was carried out at the companies’
own well equipped offices in
July 2003 – December 2003, Data Analyst (Contract)
·
Aspiren Ltd
Emerplym Ltd delivered Data Analysis Services to the Aspiren Group, a performance management consultancy which was subcontracted to carry out the implementation of the Project Intelligence portion of IMS. Emerplym Ltd’s role was to identify data sources, design & specifying data extraction tools, develop data mapping & ETL specifications, resolve data mapping issues & design/develop data cleansing tools & reports, using primarily information captured during the feasibility phase of the IMS programme.
January 2003 - July 2003, Data Analyst (Contract)
·
Railtrack Plc
The IMS programme was a three-pronged assault on internal deficiencies in the tools & processes used by Railtrack/Network Rail to deliver major capital projects. The three prongs in question were Project Management & Control, Project/Business Intelligence and Estimating. Emerplym Ltd delivered Data Analysis services to the feasibility phase of the IMS programme. Specifically, we reverse engineered & documented (using Popkin Systems Architect) the data structures underpinning several key legacy project planning & control systems. As we did this, we identified candidate data sources for project intelligence data, & developed a technology/business benefit Performance Management showcase involving OMNIS 7, Oracle Warehouse Builder, Oracle Discoverer & Oracle Balanced Scorecard. At the conclusion of the feasibility phase, Network Rail were persuaded of the benefits that could be delivered by the programme.
